Who doesn’t want to lose some weight, cleanse the body and boost our metabolism? We all do. When we observe that our weight has been increasing, we find ways to lose more of it. But strict diet and regular exercise may seem to be a heavy hurdle for us, thus we might get tempted to try on some slimming teas popularly offered in the market and even on social media to do the miracle.
Do these slimming teas do wonders for our bodies when taken every day? Are they safe to be consumed daily? Let us get to know more about these popular slimming teas, some call them detox teas, and let us find out what effect they may have on our bodies once we drink them every day.
Slimming teas are gaining popularity today as it is advertised to be an effective way to lose weight. They claim that these are healthy teas that help in boosting fast metabolism, burning stomach fats, stimulating digestion, and get rid of the impurities in the body. The theory about the weight loss effect when drinking slimming teas is that it contains ingredients that suppress appetite, block fats, and release toxins. Are these ingredients proven to be effective in losing weight?
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, slimming teas are not even recognized as being effective. The major ingredients found in teas such as caffeine and senna, are recognized by FDA as stimulants but have no major effect on weight loss. Senna is also recognized as an ingredient that irritates the large intestines. There might be positive reviews on slimming teas that we can read on sites selling them or from a few people taking them, but there is no substantial evidence to support their claims that slimming tea can aid in losing weight.
Having known this, it is also evident that drinking slimming tea daily will cause harm to one’s health. Some ingredients found in slimming teas like laxatives have severe side effects on people taking them. These may include cramping, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, reduced potassium level, and even dependency.
Slimming teas also contain diuretics which may lead to fluctuation of electrolytes which may then cause cardiac arrhythmia and death, a fluid loss followed by fluid regain, and muscle cramps.
Drinking slimming teas may also pose risks as it is not controlled by regulatory agencies like FDA so it may contain some potentially problematic ingredients that may complicate a person’s medication or existing condition. It is therefore warned by FDA to refrain from using dietary supplements like slimming teas, as it lacks evidence and substantial studies proving their effectiveness and safety.
Although, drinking tea is not bad at all. It is even considered one of the healthiest drinks in the world. Drinking tea can even be a healthy habit as it can help regulate appetite, can be a good source of caffeine, and is an inexpensive way to stay warm. Nevertheless, do not expect it to do miracles and result in dramatic abrupt changes in your body. The danger lies in some companies adding ingredients or additives that are claiming to curb appetite and thus help lose weight but are not factual and may even pose complications to your health.
Therefore, it is recommended to drink teas, especially the natural ones with safe ingredients but not those with additives claiming to lose weight. Drinking slimming tea every day is not a good habit as it has not even proven effective and reliable.
